Virat Kohli scored a “rare” six on Day 1 of the third test match underway between India and South Africa in Cape Town. During his 79-run hard hit, India’s red ball captain broke 12 fours and one sixes. According to famous statistician Mohandas Menon, this was also Kohli’s fifth six in test cricket since 2019. Menon also added that batsmen Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant have all had contrasting fortunes to reach highs, compared to Kohli. During the same period, Rohit broke 51 sixes, Mayank hit 25 and Pant bagged 18 highs.

Kohli’s six on Day 1 were due to a dispatch from Kagiso Rabada at 41 minutes. He was also India’s first top in the match.

India was eliminated by 223 in their first innings as most of the hitters, except Captain Kohli, were disappointed. KL Rahul, who crushed a ton in the first test, was only able to add 12 runs to the scoreboard.

His starting partner Mayank also added 15 35-ball runs.

Under fire, Cheteshwar Pujara missed half a century by a hairline, breaking 43 of 77 balls.
