Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse had Molineux Stadium on foot when he took a perfect free kick against Wolves in a Premier League match on Saturday. Ward-Prowse’s technical masterclass helped him bury the ball in the top right corner of the goal. The scorer hardly celebrated the impressive goal as the entire team ran towards the halfway line to restart play and gain time. However, despite this marvelous blow, Southampton went down 1-3 when Adam Traore scored in stoppage time to seal the three points for the home team.
The Southampton FC Instagram user shared the video of the free kick goal with a caption celebrating Ward-Prowse’s genius.
“There’s magic in those boots. #saintsfc.”
Raúl Jiménez opened the scoring for Wolves in the 37th minute via penalty and helped the home team take a crucial lead despite Southampton holding most of the possession.
Conor Coady doubled Wolves’ lead 14 minutes into the second half when Southampton were forced to change their tactics and attack more to create scoring opportunities.
The match seemed over before Ward-Prowse gave his team a ray of hope in the final minutes of the game.
However, Traore ended any hopes of a comeback for Southampton with a magnificent 91st-minute strike to seal victory.
After the game, Wolves sit in 8th place with 31 points, while Southampton languishes in 12th place with 24 points.
