Pakistan U19 cricket team captain Qasim Akram stole the spotlight during his team’s fifth place playoff game against Sri Lanka at the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2022. Akram batted beautifully to go unbeaten in 135 runs and then came back to torment the Sri Lankan batsmen with the ball. as he too claimed a memorable five-wicket haul. This herculean all-round effort helped Pakistan edge out Sri Lanka by 238 runs eventually. The ICC shared an Instagram post revealing that Akram’s feat of a century and five wickets in the same match was the first of its kind in tournament history.

This is what ICC shared on Instagram:

“The first player in #U19CWC history to score a century and take a haul of five wickets in the same match! Pakistan’s Qasim Akram certainly made his mark on the tournament.”

Batting first, Pakistan scored 365/3 in their 50 overs. Aside from Akram, Haseebullah Khan also scored an unbeaten ton while starter Muhammad Shehzad played an excellent 73-run strike.

In response, Akram broke the backbone of the opposition when he fired the top five hitters cheaply to set up the game for his team.

Akram also took part in Anjala Bandara’s breakaway to cap off a historic day.

On the other hand, the India U19 team is set to face England U19 in the tournament final on Saturday.

India defeated Australia in the semi-final, while England edged out Afghanistan to book a place in the final scheduled to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua.
