Women’s T-20 World Cup: West Indies and England also reached semi-finals

St Lucia: On the basis of the all-around performance of Hailey Mathews (62 runs, 16/3), the current champion West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the Group T match of the ICC Women’s T-20 World Cup here, entered the semi-finals.

This is the third consecutive victory in the three matches of the West Indies team and it has reached the semi-finals with six points. England has also been successful in reaching the semi-finals from Group A. Although both teams now have one match and play.

The West Indies made a huge score of 187 runs in 5 wickets at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Friday night after winning the toss. Mathews and Dotin added 94 runs for the first wicket. Mathews made eight fours and two sixes in 36 balls. Dotin hit eight fours in 35 balls. Udaya Ranasinghe and Shashikala Siriwardene, for Sri Lanka, got one wicket each.

On the fateful bowling of Ana Shabsole (11/3) of the magnificent hat-trick and Natalie Square (4/3), England defeated South Africa by seven wickets and secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T-20 World Cup here.

South Africa decided to bat first before winning the toss and his entire team got reduced to 85 runs in 19.3 overs. England easily achieved this goal by losing three wickets in 14.1 overs.

This is the second win in England’s three matches, and there was no result in one match. England are in second place in group A. England now have five points and have confirmed their position in the semi-finals. Apart from England, the West Indies have also reached the semi-finals from Group A. The two top teams from each group will reach the semi-finals.

For England, Daniel Wyatt (27), Tammy Beamont (24) and captain Heather Knight and Amy Allison Jones (14 not out) contributed unbeatenly. For South Africa, Captain Dan van Neink took two wickets and one for Mosleen Denniel. Earlier, South Africa was reduced to 85 for five after losing five wickets for 55 runs. Chloe Trion topped the team with 27, Mignan de Preez scored 16 and Lizli Lee scored 12 runs.
