MUMBAI: Chennai reached the final of the Indian Premier League by defeating Hyderabad by two wickets in the first qualifying match played at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. The Chennai bowlers had restricted Hyderabad to 139 for seven wickets in 20 overs and then achieved the target by losing eight wickets with five balls remaining at the fag end of Faf du Plessis.
For Chennai, Faf du Plessis scored an unbeaten 67 in 42 balls with five fours and four sixes. Apart from them, Suresh Raina has scored 22 runs. Rashid Khan took 2 wickets for Hyderabad. The Chennai bowlers dominated from the beginning and have been successful in curbing runs as well as taking wickets at regular intervals.
Carlos Brathwaite was the highest scorer for Hyderabad He played an unbeaten 43 runs in 29 balls with three sixes and a four. He scored 20 runs in the last over, including two sixes and one four. Apart from them, captain Ken Williamson and Yusuf Pathan played 24-24 runs. For Chennai, Dwayne Bravo took two wickets. Deepak Chahar, Lungi Nagadi, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.
