Rio Ferdinand has praised Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard, and compared the Norwegian to both former Gunners star Mesut Ozil and classical composer Mozart.
Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points at the weekend, thanks to Man City’s 1-1 draw at Everton and their 4-2 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
It’s a success with Odegaard at the heart of it, and former six-time Premier League winner Rio Ferdinand believes Mikel Arteta’s side look genuine title favourites.

The Arsenal skipper has been the standout star of the season for the table leading Gunners
‘Arsenal look like the real deal,’ Ferdinand told the Vibe with Five YouTube channel. ‘These are serious, they are serious clothes now.’
Ferdinand reserved special praise for Gunners captain Odegaard, comparing the playmaker to legendary composer Mozart and suggesting he is as good as former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
‘When you look at the team, they look solid, but Odegaard needs a special mention. This man! I said when I give him the armband it will go one of two ways.

‘This guy is playing like Mozart right now. He makes the ball roll at people’s feet. He looks like a reincarnation of Mesut Ozil at his best.
‘I was looking at him thinking, “wow, this kid”. You can tell he’s comfortable in his skin and he’s growing into the role of Arsenal captain really well.
‘Arsenal look like they can win any game now. To me, they’re the real deal.’

Odegaard joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021 and the deal was made permanent in the summer for a fee of around £30 million.
The 24-year-old has made 81 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and was made club captain at the start of the current campaign.
It’s a campaign that has seen the Gunners lose just once so far this season, with no team with their current points haul at this stage of the season failing to go on and win the title.
Arteta’s and Odegaard are next in action on Tuesday night, when they entertain third-placed Newcastle at The Emirates.
