Stephen Curry ‘will be out for a few weeks’ with a shoulder injury after a collision in the Golden State Warriors’ loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday

Reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for ‘several weeks’ while he recovers from a shoulder injury,’ according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The team made the announcement Thursday after the reigning Finals MVP hurt himself in Wednesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Curry scored 27 of his 38 points in the first half but left with 2:04 left in the third clutching his left shoulder. For a few moments, he collided with Jalen Smith of the Pacers.

Curry was injured with two minutes left in the third quarter as the Warriors tried to rally from a 20-point halftime deficit. His three-point play with 4:16 left in the third pulled Golden State within 83-80.

But when Pacers forward Jalen Smith dribbled toward the baseline, Curry tried to stop him by sticking out his left arm. Smith continued, and Curry’s arm bent awkwardly. Curry grabbed his shoulder as he stood with his head down on the court then walked to the locker room during the next timeout.

‘The trainers told me midway through the fourth quarter he wasn’t coming back,’ Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. ‘I trust their judgement. I only spoke to him briefly after the game, so I haven’t had a chance to speak to him yet.’

Curry didn’t ask questions after scoring 38 points, making five 3s and all 11 of his free throws. He is not expected to speak to reporters again until Friday, when the defending NBA champs visit Philadelphia for the third stop of a six-game road trip.

The Warriors have already lost their first two games in their longest Eastern swing of the season. Now they may be without their best player as they try to climb back above .500.

‘It’s been a tough stretch of the season and without Steph, it’s definitely going to be tougher,’ Kerr said. ‘If we’re healthy, I feel like we can beat anybody – I think this team has proven that. We just have to find a way to get there.’

Curry was his usual, surprising self when he was in the game. He scored half of the Warriors’ 54 first-half points and finished with seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

All-Star guard Klay Thompson missed his second straight game with a right knee injury and Andrew Wiggins sat out with an abdominal injury. Then in the fourth quarter, forward Draymond Green was ejected after getting two technical fouls in 14 seconds.

Because of Curry, the Warriors still had a chance.

“He put us on his shoulders the minute he was out there,” Kerr said. ‘He was getting to the line, looking for other people and I thought the boys did a good job fighting back.’

But if Curry misses any big time, the Warriors won’t be the same.

‘Steph has always been a guy with a positive outlook on life,’ Kerr said. ‘So we’re hoping for the best.’
