Rehan Ahmed enjoyed a dream start to his Test cricket career by taking two wickets on the first day of England’s third Test against Pakistan.
The 18-year-old was handed his first cap by Nasser Hussain for the first day of the Test – as they looked to complete a 3-0 sweep in Karachi.
Ahmed only had to wait until the 17th to bowl his first ball in Test cricket and shortly after lunch he took his first wicket, before adding another to his collection following tea.

The teenager who became England’s youngest Test cricketer took his first wicket after a superb leg-break and then a superb catch from Ollie Pope.
His teammates rushed to celebrate with Ahmed after his history-making wicket.
He later removed Faheem Ashraf to reduce Pakistan to 237-7 in a perfect start to his England career.
It was already an emotional day for Ahmed before his debut, as he received a warm hug from his father who was allowed to join the team huddle before the action began.
The teenager varied his length a bit in the first session of play, and went into lunch bowling five wickets for 37 runs, but was noticeably more composed after the break.
Ahmed’s wickets were a first glimpse of the talent that captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum had spoken about throughout the series, when he beat Saud with a googly turn of the bat, before following it up with a wicket-taking leg- spinner who took the edge.
The 18-year-old became England’s youngest man’s Test cricketer, beating Brian Close’s record from 1949.
Joe Root was the other bowler in the afternoon session to pick up a wicket, when his full-toss was hit straight to mid-on by Mohammad Rizwan, leaving the pitch furious with his decision-making for just 19 .

Babar Azam successfully navigated the afternoon session with a trouble-free 71, bringing up his half-century from 74 balls midway through the session.
In the morning, the tourists turned almost immediately, with Jack Leach becoming the first England spinner to open the bowling in the first innings of a match since 1921, when Jack White did so against Australia at Headingley.
Leach was rewarded with an early breakthrough as the ball glanced off Abdullah Shafique’s pad, but the batter opted to review.

The decision was upheld on the umpires’ call to effect, leaving Pakistan 18 for one opting to fire first.
Shan Masood batted positively for his 30 from 36 balls including five boundaries, but was caught on the boundary off the bowling of Mark Wood as England claimed their second scalp.
Ollie Robinson’s return to the field following a stomach ailment led to a wicket on the stroke of lunch, with Azhar Ali caught by Ben Foakes for 45 in his final Test match for Pakistan.
