Most people go out for the New Year but LeBron James chose to ring in 2023 by staying home and playing the latest version of Madden in front of his wife of nine years, Savannah.
Online footage showed the couple hanging out in the living room on Sunday before Savannah, who was recording, asked James, who was too busy playing video games: ‘This is what you’re making me do on New Year’s?’
The four-time NBA champion turned around and replied: ‘Playing Madden? I mean, listen. I was in Atlanta all weekend, had a birthday party, won a basketball game…celebrated my birthday with you and my mom, [saw] Crushing Ohio State….so I have to finish it.’

‘The King’ refers to the Buckeyes’ 41-42 loss to Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals. On Saturday, the 38-year-old continued to tweet throughout the game and was hyped to see wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. who led Ohio State in receiving touchdowns (2) – before he suffered a concussion in the second half.
Playing as the postseason-bound Minnesota Vikings against one of the NFL’s bottom feeders in the Indianapolis Colts on Madden, James is widely believed to be a Cleveland Browns fan now after distancing himself from the Dallas Cowboys.
‘I’ve got to take a break from the Cowboys,’ he said in October. ‘A lot of things happen when men kneel and men have freedom of speech and want to do it in a peaceful way. A lot of people in their front office are like if you do that around, then you’re never going to play for this franchise again.’
James had 40 points, nine assists and 10 rebounds against the Hawks for his 38th birthday on Friday

‘I just didn’t think that was appropriate,’ he added. ‘I still like a lot of players on the team (CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs). I’m all in on the Browns.’
Last Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers forward celebrated his birthday in style by nearly dropping a 40-point-triple double against the Atlanta Hawks in a 130-121 win.
James ended up registering 47 points, nine assists and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of game time.
The Lakers are now 15-21 overall and 13th in the Western Conference. The team will take on the Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina on Monday.
