Holland forward Memphis Depay took to Twitter to mock Charles Barkley on Saturday night after his team’s 3-1 win over the USA.
Barkley was bullish on the prospects of a US upset earlier this week, saying Gregg Berhalter’s side would ‘open a can of whoop a**’ to their opponent and say the Oranje are ‘in trouble. ‘
The Hall of Famer’s prediction did not come true however, as the USA were outclassed by Holland as they conceded nearly identical goals to Depay and Daley Blind in the first half.

The 59-year-old Hall of Famer was upbeat about the prospects of an upset of the USA earlier this week
‘We’re going to the Netherlands,’ the 59-year-old said Inside the NBA on TNT after Gregg Berhalter’s men beat Iran 1-0. ‘We’re opening a can of whoop a** ’cause I guarantee the Netherlands is in trouble.’
‘Hey Tyler, my man No. 12. We’re going for it all. I like Spain. I like Brazil. I like Germany. I like France. Oh, they got that kid [Kylian] Mbappe there in France. He is no joke but we will beat the Netherlands.’
And Depay wasted little time poking fun at Barkley, as he posted a photo of the NBA analyst looking angry at the game’s score line above him.

Holland mocked a US dollar bill with the face of their manager Louis van Gaal on it
‘Lotta bark, no bite,’ she captioned the image, which had nearly 60,000 likes upon publication.
The Oranje apparently used Barkley’s words as fuel earlier in the week, as they mined the basketball legend’s words for a social media video to rouse the fanbase.
‘In Louis we trust. In this team we trust,’ wrote the official Holland account next to the video.
In the video, they also doctored a one-dollar American bill to put the face of their own manager instead, with Van Gaal replacing George Washington.
Holland will face Argentina in the quarterfinals after beating Australia 2-1 later.
