Fans have reacted on social media to Jurgen Klopp’s dragging of Virgil van Dijk at half-time.

Liverpool struggled against a dominant Brentford and found themselves 2-0 down at half-time – before eventually losing 3-1.

Fans on social media said the German manager was right to drop Van Dijk – following a ‘poor’ performance in the first 45. However, it looks like the 31-year-old has been withdrawn with injury instead performance-related reasons.

It seemed to be a common theme among the social media crowd and another fan said: ‘Virgil off and deservedly so, he’s been hard.’

The Holland defender has been out of sorts recently and it continued in the first-half against Brentford.

The centre-back was caught napping when a ball behind the defense was played to Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo – which eventually led to the opening goal of the game.

Another fan added: ‘No complaints from me about Virgil leaving. Tsimikas and Elliott are both surprising. Klopp can get rid of anyone really is bad.’
