England confirm Bangladesh white-ball tour but dates clash with Test series in New Zealand

Jos Buttler's side will face Bangladesh in three ODI and T20 matches on the tour in March

World champions England have confirmed a white-ball tour of Bangladesh in March… but the dates directly conflict with the Test series as Ben Stokes and Co in New Zealand

  • World champions England will face Bangladesh in the ODI and T20 series in March
  • Jos Buttler’s side will play matches in Dhaka and Chattogram during the tour
  • England will return to Bangladesh for the first time in seven years
  • The tour directly clashes with England’s Test series in New Zealand

England will use split squads for the second time in just 12 months following confirmation that their tours of Bangladesh and New Zealand will overlap in early 2023.

The itinerary for Bangladesh’s white-ball tour was confirmed on Tuesday, with Jos Buttler’s team starting a three-match one-day series in Dhaka on March 1, less than 24 hours after England’s second Test against New Zealand in Wellington is set to end.

This means England will again have two teams on duty simultaneously in different parts of the world, as they did at the start of 2022 when a T20 team landed in Barbados during the final Ashes Test.

England’s return to Bangladesh following a seven-year absence will see them play two ODIs in Dhaka, move to Chattogram for the 50-over and T20 matches, before returning to Dhaka for the final two T20s.

Warm-up matches will be held in late February but are yet to be announced.

‘There is a great passion for cricket across Bangladesh, and we look forward to a tough challenge against a side with a good record at home,’ said Clare Connor, the ECB’s interim chief executive.
