Sydney: Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland, who is trying to recover from the ball tempering controversy, announced on Wednesday that he would quit his post for a year. James Sutherland had to face a ball tempering controversy two months ago, due to which there was a lot of defamation in Australia cricket around the world. Chief Executive Sutherland has given 12 months’ notice to Cricket Australia over the last 17 years and they will remain in office until they get the option.
Sutherland said, “After 20 years with the Cricket Australia, the time has come. I think this is the right time for me to go. “During the third Test in South Africa in March, when former captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and batsman Cameron Bancroft were found guilty of ball tempering, then there was a lot of pressure on Sutherland I went. All three were banned while the then coach Darren Lehmann resigned. Sutherland remained on the post and on Wednesday he also said that his resignation has no concern with that episode.
He said, “He was a big issue at that time but when you are working on the post of chief executive of a big game, such things happen. Because of that incident, I have not taken this decision. ”
A former accountant and medium pacer Sutherland have played some first-class matches. He became the General Manager of Cricket Australia in 1998. Three years later, he became the chief executive. Cricket Australia was at its peak at this time. During his tenure, Australia’s Day Night Test match and the Big Bash team 20 series were the debut. Apart from this, the famous payment dispute that took place during his tenure was also quite discussed. Because of which Australian cricketers threatened to boycott matches.
